Mental Health Manual Second Edition
The ICD-10-AM Mental Health Manual is a classification of mental and behavioural disorders with glossary descriptions and diagnostic guidelines derived from ICD-10-AM Third Edition for community-based mental health services. It is a diagnostic and classification tool that offers a common morbidity data language between acute and community health sectors.
The Manual is the first publication from the NCCH that integrates diagnostic tools and clinical guidelines into a classification.
The National Mental Health Information Strategy Committee and the National Health Information Management Group have endorsed the ICD-10-AM Mental Health Manual to record and code Principal diagnosis for
the Community Mental
Health Care National Minimum Data Set.
The primary advantages of the Manual are that it:
- is focused on mental health
- includes diagnostic tools and clinical guidelines
- is designed for use in community-based mental health settings, and
- is simpler and easier to use than the complete ICD-10-AM.
