Australian Coding Benchmark Audit (ACBA)
ACBA is based on the philosophy of continuous quality improvement
and is recommended as a simple, user-friendly system that requires
a minimum of information technology support. The design aims to
allow use of the system by health care facilities of all sizes
and levels of technical complexity.
Using the ACBA methodology it is possible to:
- Identify errors in coding practice
- Identify the causes as system or coder errors
- Identify improvement strategies using coder feedback
- Compare results across facilities and time
- Extrapolate results to casemix environments
- Provide audit reports
ACBA is available in hard-copy including a CD of Microsoft Excel
files for importation and presentation of audit results.
ACBA has also previously been available in electronic format
(ACBA 2000). While the NCCH still provides service and support
for current users of this product, further enhancements to update
this product are currently on hold.
