The ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Chronicle is an electronic reference tool that documents changes between editions from the first modification of the World Health Organization's ICD-10 by the National Centre for Classification in Health (NCCH):
- ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS First Edition (July 1998)
- ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Second Edition (July 2000)
- ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Third Edition (July 2002)
- ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Fourth Edition (July 2004)
- ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Fifth Edition (July 2006)
- ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Sixth Edition (July 2008)
The Chronicle also documents changes made within Australian Classification of Health Interventions (ACHI). The procedure classification was previously named MBS-Extended (Volumes 3 and 4 of ICD-10-AM).
Aim of the ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Chronicle
The ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Chronicle has been built with the aim of improving understanding about changes made to the classification and reasons for the changes. Health classifications must be regularly updated and maintained to retain clinical relevance. The changes created during updates are documented in the ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Chronicle to meet the needs of present and future researchers and other users of ICD-10-AM coded health data.
Aim of the ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Chronicle
The ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Chronicle consists of three linked files:
- the browser code list: an historic list of all previous and current codes
- the status file: identifies previous and current code and descriptor status
- the changes file: details of why changes occurred
The ACS information is made up of two linked files:
- a historical list of ACS numbers
- a combined status/changes file
The ICD-10-AM Chronicle is currently available at no cost but you must first
register by submitting the online
registration form to the NCCH. A return e-mail will provide a
link with a user-name and password to download the file. It is anticipated
that there will be (a yet unknown) cost for future versions of the Chronicle.
Effective use of the ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Chronicle is contingent upon assumed
knowledge of the ICD-10-AM/ACHI classifications and coding conventions. The
ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Chronicle does not teach clinical coding. The
ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Chronicle is supplied in read-only format.
