The NCCH also provides education programs in health information management and basic medical record practice, medical terminology, data quality assurance, clinical documentation for medical and nursing staff and casemix. Provision of such training courses in Sri Lanka has ultimately led to the designation of the National Institute of Health Sciences, Kalutara as a WHO regional training centre for ICD-10 and basic medical record courses, staffed by former students taught by the NCCH. The development of self-sustainability is one of the primary objectives in the development and provision of NCCH training programs.
As well as face to face courses in Australia and overseas, the NCCH has been involved in the delivery of a distance education program in classification and casemix management for clinical coders and administrators in Singapore. This program iswas being conducted in collaboration with the School of Public Health, QUT and the Health Information Management Association of Australia. The program consistsed of four modules: medical terminology, introduction to ICD-9-CM coding, advanced ICD-9-CM coding and casemix management.
